Sick and tired of being tired every morning?
We know you are, which is why you have to eliminate each and every distraction. Your nights could be filled with plenty of Zzzs if you make the perfect sleep environment -- seriously, sometimes it is really that simple.
If you can relate to the five distractions below, then it's time to make some changes in hopes of you coming face-to-face with more peaceful slumbers, if you will.
5 Things That Are Distracting You From A Peaceful Slumber
- Your Roommates
- Your Smartphone
- Your Sleep Environment
- Your Thoughts
- Your Habits
Your Roommates
Roommates. Can't live with them, can't afford the rent without them. If you have ever lived with roommates in college or during your twenties/thirties (perhaps both), then you have likely had a few nights (probably more) that have been filled with your roommates keeping you up.
Well, the sooner you fix the situation, the sooner you will be able to sleep in peace.
Your Smartphone
Smartphones are amazing. After all, they are basically like having a computer on you at all hours of the day -- you know, one that can fit into your pocket. Unfortunately, smartphones also keep people up at night, whether it's because of unwanted notifications/texts or because you simply are browsing your favorite social media networks while in bed.
Two things: (1) Put your phone on silent before you go to bed so it doesn't wake you up in the middle of the night. (2) Your phone, and bright screens in general, is not a stimulus for sleep, so stop using it right before bed like it is one.
Your Sleep Environment
How's your sleep environment? Are your pillows flooding with comfort? Are you too hot or too cold at night? Is your trusty mattress past its prime, meaning it's no longer that comfortable? Is there too much light shining through?
Spoiler alert: If your sleep environment is off in any way imaginable, you could be tossing and turning all night long. Get this area of your life in check ... if you want to get your beauty sleep.
Your Thoughts
Are your thoughts keeping you up at night? Are you worried about work, finances or anything and everything in between? It's only natural. Unfortunately, if you are stressed or worried, the inevitable will likely happen -- you will be counting sheep all night long.
That is why you need to incorporate some form of sleep ritual, one that features downtime and prepares you for sleep.
Your Habits
Your habits, yet another thing that could be distracting you from a peaceful slumber. If you drink coffee later in the day, then don't be surprised when the caffeine keeps you up at night. Likewise, if you work out late at night and incorporate a pre-workout supplement, then don't be surprised when you become a tosser-and-turner. Heck, if you watch TV before you go to bed, you could have trouble getting to sleep. Not to mention, one episode of your favorite show could lead to another episode, and before you know it, you have to be at work in five hours.
Instead of incorporating these habits, incorporate these ones.
The sooner you eliminate the distractions above, the sooner you will get the proper amount of sleep each night, which will lead to you being more focused and less tired.
Happy sleeping!
