In this day and age, people are attached to their cell phones. Heck, people are so attached to their phones that they are literally sleeping right next to them.
There are plenty of reasons behind this phenomenon. Some people just like to stay connected at all times of the day. Not to mention, people sleep next to their phones just in case someone tries to reach them in the middle of the night ... even though they are sleeping.
People also use their phones as alarm clocks. There are even apps out there that help you get to sleep. If you are one of those people who listens to music while you are sleeping, or watches Netflix before you go to bed, then your phone will, of course, be right next to you when your head finally hits the pillow.
With all of this said, we are here to tell you this: You shouldn’t sleep next to your trusty smartphone. Why? Well, because it can lead to you not getting a good night’s rest.

We tend to take sleep for granted, and it is the one thing we shouldn’t be taking for granted. Without sleep, we wouldn't be able to function properly. If you are really sleep deprived, then simple tasks such as driving to work will become quite the feat. Believe it or not, driving while being sleep deprived could be considered the same thing as driving intoxicated.
If you don’t put your phone on silent, then don’t expect to get a good night’s sleep. While friends and family likely wouldn’t call you at 3 a.m. just for the heck of it, emails (especially spam emails) and apps likely don’t know — or respect — your sleep schedule.
A simple ring of the phone could wake you up. If the rings continue to go off, then good luck trying to stay asleep for an extended period of time.
Also, and this is a big issue, people who use their alarm clocks tend to hit the snooze button over and over again. In general, people would be benefiting themselves if their alarm clocks were out of arm’s reach. By bringing that method into the mix, you are forced to get out of bed to silence your alarm. It is so much easier to stay out of bed once you are actually out of it, of course. However, if you have the ability to push the snooze button over and over again, getting out of bed might become quite the achievement if you have trouble waking up in the morning.

Here’s the deal, you might think you are getting more sleep when you hit the snooze button every five to 10 minutes, but you are actually affecting your sleep patterns, which could actually lead to you being more tired than if you woke up the moment your phone went off the first time.
You are better off steering clear of technology when it is time to go to bed, especially if you don’t silence your phone. The No. 1 reason why you shouldn’t sleep next to your phone is simple — it could wake you up throughout the night, which could lead to you being tired the next day.
Sleep is one of the most valuable tools when it comes to success. Don’t let your phone, a technological device that is capable of so much greatness, affect that.
